Adios to Burritoville?

Burritoville.JPG

I never thought I would be so upset by the closing of a chain burrito joint.

But there was nothing typical about Burritoville. With 9 locations throughout Manhattan, Burritoville was a weekly source of sustenance for me in my 20s, living in Hell's Kitchen. The food was freshly made with high-quality ingredients. Complimentary chips that were hot and crisp were gratis, served with a choice of authentic Mexican salsas. The Tex-Mex menu consisted of overstuffed burritos brimming with chargrilled meats, creamy guacamole, smoky chipotle sauce, and sweetly baked tempeh. Even with a cool Horchata or housemade lemonade, I never spent more than $8 per visit.

But word on the street is that the last of the locations closed its doors today. The website is directed now to a generic Google page. It would appear that Burritoville is no more.

Adios, Burritoville. You will be missed.
