David Bouley's "Brush Strokes" Wins Liquor License Approval, For Now...

images.jpeg

Chef David Bouley's newest restaurant, Brush Strokes, has been met with opposition by the members of the Tribeca Community Board. The three floor Japanese eatery will be the fourth restaurant in Bouley's empire to make its home on the tony neighborhood's turf, which has board members concerned about narrow streets clogged with double-parked limos, and sidewalks stained with restaurant waste.

In a letter drafted to the board, Bouley has promised a traffic management plan, as well as a pressurized cleaning system to take care of the restaurant's exterior. This seems to have been enough for board members to recommend an approval to the State Liquor Authority, but opponents cite rumors of "special dinners" and "donation of catering services" for certain board members.

The battle is far from over for Brush Strokes. Local residents will have an opportunity to voice concerns at
an SLA hearing which focuses on the oft-debated "500 Foot Rule", which prohibits new liquor licenses in establishments within 500 Feet of 3 or more other venues where alcohol is served.
