"Growlers" the New Trend for Beer Afficionados

alg_growlers_nuter[1].jpg

Beer balls? Those are so 1990...at least according to the Daily News.

It seems a new crop of specialty beer shops are offering customers a different way to cart their beer home, and at a bulk price that beats the cost of glass bottles any day of the week.

"Growlers" are 64oz, retro-styled glass jugs designed for bringing keg beer home. "Not only is it the only way to try some smaller-batch beers at home," says Jay Steinhauer, who helps sell them wholesale at American Beer Distributors in Brooklyn, "but it's greener and cheaper, too. Think 64 ounces for $11, instead of $6 for a pint." (Though you do pay a refundable deposit for the bottle.)

Visit the Daily News article for a list of where you can obtain a Growler, and fill it up, in New York.
