Lights Out for Some NYC Bars on New Year's Eve

It may be the City That Never Sleeps, but it appears that this year, the City has a curfew.

The State Liquor Authority plans on cracking down this year on establishments that want to stay open all night on December 31st, requiring bars to apply for the special license 45 days in advance of the festivities. In past year, bars need only apply 10 days in advance.

According to the New York Post, SLA First Deputy Director Woody Pascal said the agency changed the deadline to have more time to vet clubs and "ensure the safety of those planning to go out on New Years Eve."

Some posh nightspots have already been denied the privilege of extending drinking hours until 8am. Among them: the SoHo Grand and Tribeca Grand, and Chelsea club Marquee. The trendy locations are permitted one appeal.
