Minetta Tavern - Another NYC Landmark Bites the Dust

1MinettaTavern[1].jpg If you've never been to the West Village landmark Minetta Tavern, you have until the end of this month. With the rent on the space rumored to have surpassed the $50K mark, owner Taka Becovic has sold the business to Keith McNally (of Balthazar fame, among others).

Opened in 1937, Minetta Tavern served family-style Italian to a soundtrack of Frank Sinatra, Keely Smith, and Eydie Gourme. The famed wooden bar, with stained glass shelving, dates back to the 1937 opening, and is lined with priceless art and photographs, which were all included with McNally's purchase.

McNally claims he won't be changing much, but plans to close the restaurant from May through October.
