NYC Judge Temporarily 86's Controversial Calorie-Count Rule

ml_mcdonalds[1].gif

According to the New York Post, Manhattan Judge Richard Holwell has temporarily halted the Health Department as they prepared to enforce a rule requiring the City's chain and fast-food restaurants to add calorie counts to their menus.

The Judge will have until April 14 to review a lawsuit filed by the National Restaurant Association, who's bid would permanently stop the City from enacting the rule.

NYC's also controversial restaurant ban on trans fats, however, is fully underway. Restaurant owners, under penalty of fine, have been obliged to abstain from the use of trans fats since July, 2007 when frying or sauteeing foods. As of July, 2008, the ban moves on to include baked goods.
