Swedish Food Magazine Poisons Its Readers

Exactly how much nutmeg is too much nutmeg?

A popular Swedish food magazine was recalled this past month when 4 readers were hospitalized due to nutmeg poisoning. Apparently, a published apple cake recipe which intended to tell readers to use two pinches of nutmeg, instead instructed readers to use 20 whole nuts of nutmeg.

Nutmeg in large doses can cause nausea, dizziness, pain and hallucinations.

"There was a mistake in a recipe for apple cake. Instead of calling for two pinches of nutmeg it said 20 nutmeg nuts were needed," Matmagasinet's chief editor Ulla Cocke told Agence France-Presse.
