Take 'Em to Pizza Court!

patsys-exterior[1].jpg Who has the right to use the name Patsy's? The high-end midtown Manhattan eatery, which was a haunt to the likes of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr.? Or a Syosset, Long Island pizzeria, who bought rights into the Patsy's Pizzeria franchise connected with the original Harlem, NY location?

It seems that even after yesterday's verdict, nobody has a clear answer to the question, with both sides seeming to claim victory in the suit. Though jurors found that the Harlem Patsy's was the first to use the name, the Patsy's midtown camp claimed that their locations' iconic status caused confusion for Long Island diners who may mistake the Syosset pizzeria as having a connection to the legendary upscale restaurant.

Judge Ramon Reyes will rule on naming rights in August, when he decides on a cash settlement for the midtown location. Sara Lastings, a customer of the 56th Street Patsy's may have summed it up best when she told The New York Post, "The other place may have the name, but not the meatballs."
